Prints for the People

Last Thursday saw the launch of Robert Shadbolt's Salford & Manchester Themes & Variations exhibition in the gallery at Islington Mill.

As part of the exhibition design, I created  this tiled wall made of screenprinted happy faces- one of Robert's signature motifs.

Printed in Manchester red and Salford pink, it creates quite an optical illusion and soon became a feature wall where people stand to be photographed against!

There are 30 prints of Robert's illustrations in the exhibition and if you can't make it down to Salford, you can view the digital versions here.

The exhibition runs until June 12th. We'll be open to the public and there to chat and take orders for prints on Sunday 5th and Sunday 12th June 12-4pm, which is the same time as The Sunday Market, so even more reason to head on down and bring your spending money too!

I'll also be setting up the RS vs Mr.PS merch table, which includes the new collection of screenprinted birch ply badges and keyrings, as well as Happy Hankies

 

Bank Hol 02

My friend Laura and I got busy baking in readiness for our Royal Tea Cafe, which we ran alongside the first Salford Zine Fair, over the May Day/Royal Wedding Bank Holiday weekend.

Held in a proper church hall, we decked out the cafe area with vintage pics of the Royals, as well as my home grown pansies in jars on the tables.

Getting in to the swing of the RW, our selection of home-baked cakes included:- Queen Victoria sponge, Lord Litchfield's Lemon Drizzle, Beatrice's Blueberry Torte and Prince Harry's Ginger cake

And of course, I couldn't resist pegging up a few Mr.PS tea towels on the side. Hooray Ice Cream, Royal Wedding Breakfast and Chin Chin

Bank Hol 01

Regular readers of this blog, and fans and followers of Mr.PS will know that I have a bit of a weakness for ice cream. Mmmmm.

And so for the first bank holiday weekend of the season, I was very pleased indeed to make a visit to Morelli's in Broadstairs, Kent, on what turned out to be one of the hottest days in April since records began.

 Perfect.

Ooh, check out the retro styling and formica tabletops. Love it.

Raspberry ripple and chocolate for me...

 

My companions each went for something a little more, and a little less, restrained.

 

Look! Even the door handles (and light fittings) are ice cream cones.

Ok, maybe the heat was getting a bit to me by now.

Bye Bye Morelli's, looking forward to visiting you next year when I am ready for a 300 mile drive again.
