Saturday 10th March marks 5 years since setting up my Etsy shop. Crikey!
So much has happened during that time, both professionally and personally - eg I've moved house 3 times, but my Etsy shop has always been a constant, I think I've hardly ever gone into "vacation mode".
Etsy itself has changed a lot too. It has grown huge! But with the growth has come lots of developments and new features. Originally starting as a "handmade marketplace," people can now sell vintage products, which I think although can go hand in hand with the general ethos, is a bit of a shame.
When I first set up shop, for me it was a tentative start to selling online, to promoting my products and myself to the world. I learnt a lot over those first few months about product photography, writing descriptions, online networking, blogging. I met friends through the Etsy forums that I now see regularly. Amazing.
Since then my business has grown and I now have my own separate online shop, as well as wholesaling to retailers nationally and internationally. Maybe it's time to say goodbye to my Etsy shop?
However I'll always have a soft spot for Etsy, and it still amazes me how the international community it creates is so friendly. The "convo" feature is a great way for buyers and sellers to get in touch with one another.
Recently I was contacted by Dana, an Etsy seller in Canada who'd recognised my products in a Canadian Home magazine, and emailed me scanned pages for my press file.
Another example springs to mind when I was wholesaling tea towels to Anthropologie and was inundated with messages from Americans from various cities contacting me both with excitement to say they'd spotted them in store, or worried that my designs were being ripped off by the big high street retailer.
One of the other highlights of the last 5 years was in 2010 I was chosen as a featured seller, you can read the interview here. That certainly was a crazy few days of non-stop sales and re-listing, and again feeling the love from the Etsy community.
So to celebrate, and thank all my lovely Etsy customers old and new, I am offering 25% off all products in the Mr.PS Etsy shop, Blimey! There you can find a few one-offs and things no longer available elsewhere.
Just use the promotional coupon code: Etsy5 when you check out. It's only valid for my etsy-versary so don't hang about!
